What is a role selector?
Role selectors are an easy way to let your members choose their roles. The Role selector will list all the available roles for members to choose from and then assign them one or more roles when they accept. This is a great way to allow members to decide what they want in a Discord server.
Just another way Nero helps manage your community with ease!
The role selector in Nero's dashboard
To get started head to Nero's easy-to-use web dashboard here.
From there select the server you wish to add the role selector to.
Now, click on the Roles dropdown and select
If you are setting up your first role selector, it will look like this.
Creating a role selector group
Now for the fun part, creating your first role selector groups!
+ Add Role Selector.
Now you get to name the group and decide whether it's mutually exclusive.
If mutually exclusive is turned on, members will only be able to select one of the roles in the selector. If it's off, they can choose as many as they like.
add, and you've now successfully created your first group! It should look something like this.
Now that we have our role selector group, we need to add some roles for members to select.
Click the + to add the roles we want.
Now we can also add Unicode or Custom emojis.
We will also be able to add a Label and a description of the role.
To add a Unicode emoji simply copy and paste the emoji you would like.
To add a custom emoji to your role we will go to Discord and put your custom emoji in the "send message" then we will put a \ in front of it, it should look like this
Then click enter and it'll show you your Emoji ID
Copy that number and paste it into the custom emote ID, it will look like this
add the role is now listed under the group.
You can always add or remove roles, so play around with it!
Keep in mind, due to a fixed limitation with Discord, each role selector has a max of 25 roles.
Setting Discord Channel
After adding all the roles needed it's now time to set the Discord channel your new role selector will be in.
After clicking the edit button on the group, a dropdown lists all the text channels in your Discord server.
If you have set a channel and wish to change it, just go back into the groups' settings and change the channel. The role selector will be deleted from the old channel and added to the new one.
None in the channel dropdown if you wish to remove the role selector from your Discord but don't want to delete the group. The role selector will be deleted from the old channel.
Using the role selector in Discord
Now that that's all done we will go to the discord server we selected and the role selector should be in the channel you told it to be in.
It will look like this once there and you've clicked on the dropdown
And that is it! Now your members will be able to select their own roles. It's a tidy and easy to use solution, one of many that Nero has to help you grow and manage your community with ease.
Only the person who clicks a role will see this message to avoid spam! Simply dismiss it or wait for it to clear in its own time.
